Stain Glass (Homemade Candy) Final Project for Class in December

This is a stain glass window made from hard candy. It was the final project for Mary Ann in the History of Creativity class. We balanced the frame on mugs and strung Christmas lights beneath to make it glow. It was quite impressive in the dark.

It took a good 30 hours (if not more) and resulted in an A for the project, an A- overall in the class. The project was a great experience of trial and error. Eventually we made it all work... eventually. Here are some pictures of the strategies we used to make it work:

Jonathon making the frame for it to be mounted in.

We poured the hot candy directly into molds to fill in the background.

We would cut the hot candy when it was cooled to a tacky stage.

Not all of the candy we made we could use. There was TONS left over. This is probably less than 10%. We went through about 15 lbs of sugar.

Air Force Dining Out

Here are some pictures from Dining Out. This first picture is with Ty Burgess (one of Jonathon's great ROTC buddies) and his fiance Makamae Sanchez. You can see my corsage in the picture. I felt great wearing it. They were a big hit.

The second picture is with Lt. Col. Hastriter and his wife. They are good friends of Jonathon's who are currently stationed at Hill AFB and like to come down for Dining Out. He is one of the main reasons Jonathon joined AF ROTC. We both have a lot to thank him for.

Temple Trip

We finally had a chance to go back to the Jordan River Temple where we got married. It is so beautiful in the fall. Here are some pictures we took.

Corsages

Some cadets wanted me to make some corsages for the Air Force Ball on Saturday. I made about 10. It took me quite a while, but the more and more I did, the better I got. Here are some pictures of some I did. It was pretty late by the time I finished-- you can see the glossy look in my eyes.

At the party we went to we had a mummy wrapping contest. They wrapped me in toilet paper faster than any of the other teams. The pirates were are team mates (Cadet Folks and his wife).

Halloween Costumes

Halloween is such a fun time. Jonathon and I went to a Halloween Party as Dorothy and the Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz... with a kinda twist. You don't see it now, but before I had straw coming out of my pockets at my side and in the front of the overalls. The only problem was that the straw started going inside my pants... pretty uncomfortable, so we dumped it in the bushes outside partway through the night. Jonathon is carrying a basket with a little stuffed dog (Toto) and you had to hold your mouth just right to keep his bow clipped on his short hair. His red shoes are probably the best part of all...
